Prayer For The Leaders In The Government

I will refute every tongue that accuses me. Amen.

The idea of power has long been associated with gruesome acts of violence, terror, and oppression. Images of war, torment, bloodshed, rape, torture, slavery and so on have been progressively built around the idea of power and power enforcement. These strongholds had been built layer after layer, searing our consciousness and preparing us for the unseen and often unpredictable evil future.

Yet, Jesus came and showed us a different kind of power. One that is sacrificial, and loving. A power that comes from dying for others. He also spoke of another one to follow, whom we know as the Holy Spirit. Suddenly the idea of power shifted towards dying not by killing others to save yourself and your family, but dying to self and saving the souls of men. There are many great leaders who have done all kinds of evil to protect their countries and peoples, but the name of Jesus remains a symbol of power that will last forever.

Our culture is built on fear, not on faith. It exalts facts over psalm, and pessimism over hope. We must learn to cope with reality that reflects the past, instead of developing an outlook for a better future. We remain silent about spiritual development and give our time to follow the path of our ancestors. We compromise our dreams and gifts because we believe that they are not important. The salvation of our souls includes not only our eternal dwelling, but also our current state. We are invited to develop our gifts and talents and to dream and envision with God a future that is filled with love, joy, peace, gentleness, kindness, goodness, and so on. It takes just as much time, work, and energy as every other job, but the rewards are eternal.

Prayer: Father, we pray for our leaders, heal them from all the violence and suffering, from the terrors of the past, from all fears and strongholds that make them see the worst possible outcome. Plant the seeds of righteousness that will build the faith needed to grow the fruit of the spirit that is love, joy, peace, kindness, gentleness, forbearance, and long suffering. They all need help, so come Holy Spirit and teach them how to walk in your ways. In Jesus Christ’s name, amen.
