I will fear no evil – Psalm 23:4
When we face evil, we must understand that evil has eternal nature. Adam and Eve ate from a tree that was in the midst of a garden in eternity. Evil overtook them, led to their downfall, and ultimately to their death. Adam and Eve could not prevail against the fruit of evil. Though they were created in the image of God, walked with God daily, and were sinless in their nature, the power of evil conquered them and they lost their dominion. The battle is just as relevant today, as it was back then, because the battles is between good and evil – two eternal forces. The power of evil can not be underestimated.
Depart from evil, and do good; Seek peace, and pursue it. The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, And his ears are open unto their cry. (Psalm 34:14-15).
It is only through the redemptive power of Jesus Christ that now we have access to eternal victory. At the cross, satan lost his dominion over us, and we can no longer allow evil to rule our lives. Evil may enter through many doors but we are commanded to: 1) guard our hearts 2) follow Jesus 3) seek peace, and pursue it. If evil has entered, we must purge it with the word of God and with the help of the Holy Spirit. But we don’t stop there, we learn to rule and reign as royal priests, while we move forward to set others free. Jesus died for the whole world. His victory must be enforced everywhere and all the time.
Prayer: Father, as we mature in our identity as sons, reveal to us the steps you want us to take for the benefits of your kingdom. In Jesus Christ’s name, amen. Thank you, Holy Spirit.
