Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends – John 15:13
Joy and love walk together – it’s impossible to feel down when you are in love. Consider the first time you fell in love – love gave you wings, and you probably walked with a huge smile on your face. Someone in love can not think straight – the love emotion overrules reason. The same applies to the spirit – if you walk on the path of love, you begin to nurture habits that produce joy. You don’t have to understand how it works. You just have to trust that joy will be released in and through you.
When you are surrounded by good and faithful friends, friends who love and support you, who understand you and cherish you for who you are, you have inner peace and are free to rejoice every time you spend time with them.
Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends (John 15:13). Have you thought of laying down your life for a friend? Has a friend laid down his/her life for you? Make a list of all your friends and consider ways in which you could become a better friend. Now can you think of a way to lay down your life for him/her? It’s what Jesus did on the cross for His disciples.
Be a friend. Joy will come. If you don’t know how to be a better friend today, spend time in the word of God, and soon you’ll begin to see all your friends in a new and fresh light. You may discover things you never though before, and your love for them will increase. So will joy.
Prayer: Father, teach us how to love our friends. In Jesus Christ’s name, amen.
