Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel. – Matthew 15:31
There is darkness in the hearts of men and women that blinds them. Many are bound to unbelief. I am utterly convinced that if all people would unite and believe, blindness will be a thing of the past. Unfortunately physical blindness is not the only problem. The root lies in man’s sinful nature. Our God-given free will can be used for evil, and there are many people who exercise their free will against God’s sovereign lordship.
How do we overcome the obstacles that come from people who work against God? We ask for God’s help. It would be an issue of blindness within ourselves if we don’t recognize that there are people who are against us, because they can hinder us. They can hinder our faith, waste our time, distract us from our God-given assignment, leave us empty, wounded, filled with bitterness and disappointment. Blinded by jealousy, envy, pride, and hate, they can hunt us down until we are destroyed. This is what happend to Stephen.
The good news is that there is always Paul. There is the one whom God chooses to transform according to His own purpose. One encounter with Jesus changed Saul to Paul. And the journey began with blindness. Hallelujah!
Father, we are grateful for Paul. Let your perfect will be done in our lives on earth as it is in heaven. In Jesus Christ’s name, amen.
