Rejoice Always: Tomorrow

Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. – Matthew 6:34

One of the keys that unlock joy is found in Matthew 6:34take no thought for tomorrow. Tomorrow will worry for itself. There is an evil in the day. There are already seeds of evil today.

It’s easy to sit and plan for tomorrow. People don’t like risk. They want to plan ahead. They look for ways to prepare for rainy days. We can plan for our physical needs, we can build houses, plant vineyards, dress beautifully, eat well, but we can not rejoice always until we disconnect from the cares of this world. It’s paradoxical to think that joy is found in the things of this world and that we can rejoice after our needs are met. Sure there is a satisfaction in a beautiful house, a fast car, and a healthy meal, but is there joy that comes from them? Are you able to enjoy them? If you worked hard and plant well, you can reach a level that brings you happiness; but if you are called to purpose, to fulfillment of God-given destiny, to be a forerunner, you must be willing to put down your own plans and desires and to follow Jesus into the unknown.

Father, today is sufficient for me. I will give no thought for tomorrow. In Jesus Christ’s name, amen. Thank you, Holy Spirit.
