Jesus said, “Blessed are the peacemakers, because they will be called children of God” (Matthew. 5:9)
Have you seen children play together? It’s fun to be a child. You don’t have to understand what kindness is, but you’d follow the example of others, especially your parents.
Kind parents usually raise kind children. The same way, God makes us kind trough his word. He expects us to be kind to others, because He is kind, and if we follow him, He teaches us to be kind towards other. He corrects us when correction is needed, and gives us the grace to continue if we humble ourselves. When a child does something wrong and comes to the understanding of it, s/he would say “I am sorry”. What good parent wouldn’t feel the joy of seeing his/her child regretting the wrong? This is how kindness works – it gently helps us see the wrong and a simple “sorry” immediately erases the bad feelings. This is called forgiveness.
In some cultures kindness is encouraged but not forgiveness. Kindness and forgiveness work together. Kindness helps us see our mistakes, and forgiveness corrects them. You don’t have to be a child to make mistakes. We can be kind to ourselves and grow in grace towards others when they make mistake.
Father, thank you for being a kind Father. I want to be kind to others. Amen.
