Love is not self-seeking – 1 Corinthians 13:5
Walking in love is walking with a renewed mind. It’s the love of Christ manifesting in us. The love of Christ is sacrificial. It’s not self-centered and self-seeking.
When we are in Christ, we are not afraid to open up to others. There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love. (1 John 4:18) We can love others without fear. We can accept them for who they are, expecting nothing in return.
We learn to love the sinners, the outcasts, and those who have hurt us. We heal and rise higher, because Jesus died for us, and for all who have ever hurt us. We forgive and heal. Our lives become whole again, and we no longer hold feelings of resentment, disappointment, and unforgiveness. We are made new. Our new nature does not seek punishment for others – it sets them free from guilt and fear of punishment.
All past hurts remain at the cross. Jesus sets us free and give us the grace to set others free. We no longer ask for justice, but for mercy. We interceed for them, because of what Jesus did on the cross. Not because they deserve it or because we are so good. It’s the grace of God that makes all things beautiful.
Father, help us forgive quickly. In Jesus Christ’s name, amen. Thank you, Holy Spirit.
