Peace I leave with you – John 14:27
When Jesus addresses us directly, we better listen. Jesus spoke to people during his ministry: he spoke about the prophets before him, he spoke to John the Baptist and to his mother; he spoke to the crowd, he spoke to the sick, to the blind, to the Pharisees, he spoke to Pilate, etc. And occasionally he spoke to us, giving us instructions and reassuring us.
When Jesus mentioned his peace to his disciples, it was a promise to us as well. What was so special about the promise of peace? If it’s from Jesus, I want to know more about it. Peace is part of the fruit of the spirit according to Galatians 5:22-23, but I don’t think this is the only aspect of it. There is an element of his ministry that we can receive if we choose to follow him. Peace is for us, in us, and with us. Peace is what crashes the enemy under our feet. Satan can not win against the peace from Jesus, but he might be victorious against the peace that this world gives.
Father, in the name of Jesus, I receive the peace Jesus promised to his disciples. Amen. Thank you, Holy Spirit.
