And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. – Acts 1:4-5
If kindness seems difficult to cultivate, it is good to be patient and to wait on the Holy Spirit, who is the promised gift from the Father. Our old nature wars against the spirit. Some Christians are carnal when they enter the body and only time and consistent study of the word and will of God can bring them to the place of maturity and unity in Christ.
If we are to commit to a kind action per day, we must do it on a personal level, without expecting nothing in return. Let’s not look at what others are doing, even those in ministry or church, because we can’t be sure what is happening in their lives and the level of warfare they might be experiencing. Each one of us has the Holy Spirit and the word of God – this is all a believer needs to be successful in showing kindness towards others, without having to receive the approval of the elders or the appreciation of the church leaders. Be a force of kindness, no matter where you are and no matter who is looking or not looking.
Here are three simple action steps to get you started:
- Smile
- Make an honest compliment to someone
- Say “thank you” at least once a day
Remember planting seeds of kindness is fun!
Holy Spirit, I am happy to sow seeds of kindness in others. Thank you.
