whatsoever things are honest – Philippians 4:8
Honesty is important not only for destroying deception and high things, but for our personal edification. Honesty is the foundation of a healthy self-image. Ego makes some things bigger than they are, inferiority complex leads to distortion, pride causes self-centerness; whatever the case is, it is in our best interest to spend time in the word of God and allow the Holy Spirit to clean the foundation of our identity.
Being honest with yourself helps you see the good things and the things that can be polished/improved/healed, etc. If you are happy with the way you are, great! Congratulations – you have arrived. However, if there are things that seem off, then be honest with yourself and begin to cooperate with the Holy Spirit who can restore every broken piece in your identity. The Bible mentions spiritual equilibrium – it must be restored and honesty can help you do just that.
Be grateful for how God made you – you are unique, precious, and blessed. Your identity must be firmly planted in Christ in order to resist the storms of this world. You are a child of the most-high God!
Father, I am grateful for the way you made me. Help me appreciate your works more and more. In Jesu Christ’s name, amen. Thank you, Holy Spirit.
