And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen, – Acts 1:24
When we pray and ask God for something, there is a waiting period before the answer comes. It’s in the waiting period that we experience anxiety, fear, condemnation, doubt, unbelief, anger, disappointment, etc. It is a dangerous zone to live in.
Israel went through the wilderness before entering the promised land, and an entire generation died there, including Moses, who spoke to God directly. Imagine speaking to God directly. Prayer is the means of communication with God, and we tend to think that he is far away, especially when our prayers remain unanswered.
If Moses spoke with God on daily basis and still didn’t enter the promised land, this tells us that God is not a respecter of a person. We have a part to play. Those who know God exists still have to do the work. God is not genie in a bottle ready to answer every wish we have. He answers prayers, not wishes.
What is the difference between a prayer and a wish?
Father, in the name of Jesus, thank you for answering my prayers, not my wishes. Amen.
