That’s why a man will leave his own father and mother. He marries a woman, and the two of them become like one person. – Genesis 2:3
In Genesis 2 we find Adam with his God given partner, equal to him, who could share the responsibilities of stewarding God’s creation. The Creator made sure that the family unit begins with the man and his wife (not wives), removing the responsibilities from his parents and the parental headship over the marriage.
God did not specify how money would be handed down. He expects us to manage anything using his principles, and not necessarily what we learn in business schools, or what the will of our parents might be. The beauty of Christian faith is its simplicity – His will, His provision, and His principles. They are eternal and apply to everyone – all men and women who belong to His body.
The Curse
As soon as Adam and his wife disobeyed God’s command, sin entered their lives and the curse was activated. Suddenly their lives turned upside down. In contemporary terms this would equal the time of the Great Depression, or loosing your entire life-savings with no hope of ever regaining what was lost. The snake tempted Eve and in her naive state, she took a bite from the fruit in the middle of the garden, gave some to her husband and both were poisoned.

As long as you live, you will have to struggle to grow enough food, the ground will produce thorns and thistles and you will work hard to earn a living – Genesis 3:17
Life is full of temptations. Imagine working late, and then having some drinks with colleagues after work, where you meet an attractive young lady, …, and before you know it your wife is hanging you divorce papers, your boss is asking for your resignation, you are loosing your house, stripped from the love of your children, your career is over, your reputation ruined etc. A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump. (Galatians 5:9) Or imagine the morning you wake up after being diagnosed with an incurable disease like cancer, being told that there is nothing that can be done.
This is what Adam and Eve experienced after disobeying God’s command. There was no turning back – life was ruined. They had to move forward – death was imminent.
Let’s Pray For You
Father, in the name of Jesus, thank you for giving humanity a second chance after the fall of Adam and Eve. Give me compassion for the people who don’t know Jesus. Amen.
