My eager expectation and hope is that I will not be ashamed about anything – Philippians 1:20
Shame is a spirit, and it has to be bound in the spirit. As soon as Adam and Eve ate from the tree, they felt ashamed and hid from the presence of God. They had never experienced shame before.
Shame comes when we do something wrong and have the realization that it is wrong. It could also result from:
- making a promise and not keeping it
- uncomfortable exposure before others
- crossing community guidelines
- doing unlawful things, etc.
There is also the fear of being embarrassed before others. If something done in secret, remains secret, we believe that we won’t go through the shameful experience. Some people are naturally shy, and that too is a form of fear or pride, depending on the motives.
Whatever brings shame to your life, there is a solution. There is joy when we find the way out of a shameful situation. We should not let the devil keep us imprisoned by shame. Shame is a wicked spirit, and it won’t let you go easily. Take courage; Jesus has overcome.
In what ways do you feel shame or embarrassed?
