Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. – Matthew 13:3
Love doesn’t stop. It keeps going. When someone hurts us or rejects us, we are to continue on the path of love. We choose to turn the other chick, and look for love somewhere else. If a person breaks our hearts, we can choose to love a cat or a dog instead. Or we can visit a family member, such as a cousin, or an uncle. We may decide to spend time with a friend. Or if anything else, we can volunteer in a local shelter, or have a conversation with a stranger in a nursing home. There are unlimited ways to love. All we have to do is choose.
When Jesus’ family moved to Egypt for political reasons, they returned once the thread was gone. Love can hide in unexplainable ways and places. We don’t just go and fight back those who hurt or try to stop and limit us. At times the wise thing to do is hide. Hide your feelings, hide your wounds and your disappointments, and just continue on the path of love.
There are countries, where women experience extreme oppression – from political and social issues, to family aggression. In these remote places, love still exists. And it’s the power of God that will justify love.
Jesus was baptized. He didn’t just show up as the son of God and started his ministry, knowing that God has already approved his work. If Jesus had to be justified, how much more do we need the approval of God? Love may be easy to practice, but without the approval of God, it remains unproductive; it does not bring fruit. We can just choose to plant seed and expect harvest. It’s the will of God that makes all things work together for our good.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I choose to submit to your will every day of my life. Let all the seeds I plant be for your glory, and not mine. Amen.
