Have Peace: When It’s Time For War

a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace. – Ecclesiastes 3:8

War is usually associated with pain, loss, hunger, famine, poverty, destruction and hardship. And it is, when people fight against each other. But there is always peace that follows a war. I have not personally experienced a war in that sense, but I know the relief that comes when peace is declared and established. I don’t know what is like to fight on a battlefield, or use a weapon that takes another person’s life. I don’t know what is like to wounded and have a leg amputated. I don’t know what is like to loose a loved one or see them raped or injured. And most importantly, I don’t know what is like to look at another being and pull the trigger in order to save your own life. I don’t know, and I pray to God I’d never have to experience any of these events.

I prefer peace. Jesus is known as the prince of peace. I’d choose peace 100% of the time. But there is another war that we should all know about. It’s spiritual, it happens in the realm of the spirit, and it is just as important if not more important than any life battle. We can have the skills and the preparation of a warrior, without the need of taking the life of another human being. And this is the beauty of the Christian life – it provides everything that a life has to offer, but it makes it so that we don’t take the matter against people, but against the spiritual powers and forces that surround us. And it all leads to wholeness.
