Acts Of Kindness: Day 15

“Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke beforehand by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus. – Acts 1:16

We can become very creative in our own flesh when showing kindness to people, but the best way to do it is to ask God. His ways are higher than our ways. No matter how good our intentions might be, it is God’s ways that make all the difference.

I often consider the works of non-profit and the works of the church. I am not opposing non-profit works, but if they are not approved by God’s sovereign power, they will be fruitless. The church on the other hand can inspire to do good, and should lead men and women to repentance. So does religion. The difference is – the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Every time we impose our own will over the will of God, we sin. Judas thought that giving the money from Mary’s perfume to the poor was better than wasting it on Jesus’ feet. After all Jesus was all about helping the poor and needy, the sick and the brokenhearted. What Judas said made sense, but not according to Jesus. Our good works may look and sound good, but they could be opposite to the will of God. This is why kindness is often used to cover sin.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, in your righteousness, withdraw your kindness when it’s been used to cover sin. Amen.
