Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. – Matthew 4:1
Jesus was led by the Spirit of God, and every born again believer is also led by the Holy Spirit. His operation is in the inward witness, who leads and guide us constantly. Our faith helps us take steps, because we can not see or hear the spirit in the flesh, it’s the spirit that is in communication with the Holy Spirit.
When people need guidance, they look around – they look up to their fathers, mothers, friends, teachers, famous people, and pretty much anyone who has some kind of appeal, or what some might define as “light”. For the most part they compare themselves to others. But we have Jesus who lives on the inside and the Holy Spirit, who guides us. “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. (Luke 14:26) Hate is a strong word that Jesus used to confirm his will over those who follow him.
Satan can work through people and he is known as the angel of light. He can place light over someone and the light would draw others to the person. He can use our closest relatives, and even our parents to separate us from God’s will. Job’s wife advised him to curse God and die. Samson didn’t hearken to the words of his parents, and chose to follow women who worshipped other gods. We can be tempted by people in our own circle of influence. This is why our love must first and foremost be for God, and then those who are dear to our hearts. “’Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’- Matthew 22:37
Father, in the name of Jesus, teach my heart to love you. Amen.
