Patience: Restoration

So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. – Acts 1:6-7

We often hear the word ‘restoration‘, but the true restoration comes only from God and by the hand of God. There are things that can be experienced only after patience has had her perfect work. We can never rush God and his power to restore. It will only happen in his perfect time. When God makes us wait, it’s usually because His sovereign power requires it. Jesus died on the cross and was raised on the third day. Could he have been raised on the first, second, or fourth day? Lazarus had been death for four days before Jesus called him out; the girl that died was raised the same day. If we search the Bible diligently, we can probably find another instance, when someone was raised on the second day. God’s power is unlimited and unstoppable, but his appointed times and seasons are not for us to understand.

The second coming of Jesus is imminent but when it will happen – it’s not for us to know. The prophecy had been released and we are to receive it, but God gives us the patience to wait. Patience will prepare our hearts for his return. Meanwhile, we are to preach the gospel, read the Bible and pray for his will to be fulfilled according to the time and season. The assurance of his return is sufficient for all our needs.
