Rejoice Always: Christ Is Proclaimed

Now if I live on in the flesh, this means fruitful work for me; and I don’t know which one I should choose. – Philippians 1:22

In Philippians 1:22 Paul described the struggle every believer goes through – to live in the flesh is profitable in the world we live in but it does not lead to eternal rewards. It is better to live in the spirit and fight the flesh with all its desires. It’s easy to loose your joy when those around you make progress of every kind – they get ahead and enjoy the works of their efforts, while we are stuck and show no signs of progress. But if our joy is in our works, the toil of our hands, then we limit what God can do in and through us.

There is nothing wrong in being successful in this life, only if our success brings others to Christ. If success is used to glorify the works of the flesh, God has nothing to do with it. Choosing God-kind of success means choosing what the flesh does not want, because God is spirit and the spirit fights the flesh. Success in the eyes of God will never be according to our own plans and purposes, but it will destroy the works of the flesh. There is joy in the destruction of the flesh. It’s when the spirit overpowers the fleshly works and brings into subjection every form of pride.

Father, in the name of Jesus, let the Holy Ghost destroy all flesh in my life. Amen.
