She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” – Matthew 1:21
There is no love outside the salvation power of Jesus. The world is penetrated with sin and it would continue that way if it wasn’t for Jesus. Love saves. It may start in the family, with the desire of a mother to keep a child instead of aborting it, or with the father who chooses to humble himself at work so that he can provide for his family.
As soon as we begin to give ourselves for others, for our children, for our parents, even for our neighbors, the seed of love is at work. Love chooses to give and to save.
Jesus is the ultimate example of love. Follow his steps and you will see what pleases love – healing, wholeness, salvation, freedom, discipleship, trust, faith, obedience. These are the big themes, but if we nurture the seeds and teach others how to walk in love, we begin to see the fruits not only in our lives, but in the lives of others.
There is a supernatural side of love. The cross was what people saw, but the resurrection was supernatural. Jesus was crucified among sinners – there were two other men hanging on crosses next to him, but only Jesus came back. We belong to Christ, but we are not Christ. Many new age practices like to replace God with man, but that too is not correct. Jesus is, and we are in Him.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I receive the message that saves – Jesus died on the cross for my sins and the sins of the whole world, and on the third day he came back to life. Amen. Thank you, Holy Spirit.
